Lionel Sims, who was appointed by Mayor Bowser, has several years of experience in labor and employment law and has served as General Counsel for public and private entities. Prior to moving to the District of Columbia, Mr. Sims was elected President of the Wolverine Bar Association in his home state of Michigan. Subsequently, he was named Interim General Counsel of a Tier 1 automotive supply corporation that had production facilities across the United States and in Canada. In that role, Mr. Sims provided direct oversight on labor and employment, commercial and litigation matters. In 2009, Mr. Sims married his wife Angela and relocated to Washington DC. Thereafter, he joined the DC Office of the Attorney General in the Personnel, Labor and Employment Division, where he advised on labor and employment matters for various agencies of the District of Columbia government. In 2010, Mr. Sims was appointed as General Counsel of the Child and Family Services Agency, where he oversaw the Office of General Counsel regarding labor and employment, contract and a myriad of legal matters.
Mr. Sims holds a B.S. from Wayne State University in Business Administration, majoring in Corporate Finance, and he also holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law.
