Bowser Administration Announces New Partnership to Assist Residents with Citizenship Process

Monday, November 13, 2017
National Immigration Forum’s “New American Workforce Partnership

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Tuesday, November 14, at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will deliver remarks at the United States District Court Immigration and Naturalization Ceremony and announce the New American Workforce Partnership that is being launched with the non-profit group, National Immigration Forum. The partnership will help thousands of District residents naturalize and become American citizens.

The New American Workforce Partnership will help at least 2000 DC residents apply or complete the naturalization process to become American citizens. The program intends to boost naturalization rates by providing information workshops where experienced immigration professionals provide an introduction to the citizenship process, including eligibility requirements and the benefits of citizenship. The partnership will also host application workshops for employees to receive one-on-one assistance to further determine eligibility, complete the application, and provide English-language and civics instructions to pass the naturalization test.

The Bowser Administration is committed to immigrant residents of the District, as this partnership shows. Earlier this year, Mayor Bowser announced Immigrant Justice Legal Services (IJLS) – a grant funding program that provided $500,000 to community-based organizations, private organizations, associations, and law firms to do legal work for immigrants in the District.
