Mayor Bowser and CareFirst to Announce $2 Million in Grants to Improve Maternal and Child Health

(Washington, DC) – On Tuesday, November 19, at 2 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will host CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) to announce the recipients of more than $2 million in grants to support organizations working to improve birth outcomes and maternal and child health in the District and throughout the region. The CareFirst grants, awarded through a request for proposals process that opened in December 2018, are expected to impact more than 10,000 patients across the DC region.

As a leader on the issue of maternal and infant health, in September, Mayor Bowser hosted the District’s second National Maternal and Infant Health Summit, bringing together leaders and health experts from across the nation to discuss the disproportionally high rates of maternal mortality experienced by people of color in the United States.
