Tuesday, July 25, 2017
Professional Soccer Team will Host Soccer Training in DC and Study Abroad Program in Barcelona

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Wednesday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser will announce FútbolNet, a new partnership between DC Public Schools (DCPS) and Fútbol Club (FC) Barcelona. FútbolNet, a soccer training program for middle school students that will begin in summer 2018, focuses on social-emotional learning through soccer training and uses an innovative teaching method to promote positive values among young people.

FC Barcelona, a professional soccer team based in Barcelona, Spain, will also provide a study abroad and training program for high school female soccer players. Beginning in spring 2018, the study abroad and training program will take place in Barcelona, Spain, as part of Reign - an initiative to empower young women of color in DC public schools.

The global partnership highlights Mayor Bowser’s commitment to reform DC public schools and increase international opportunities. As part of her Fiscal Year 2018 Budget, the Mayor invested $6.2 million in middle and high public schools to engage more students in extracurricular activities, develop new athletic programs, and create computer coding clubs.
