Mayor Bowser to Announce New Chief Technology Officer, Launch Open Government Initiative

Monday, January 11, 2016

(Washington, DC) – On Tuesday, January 12 at 11 am., Mayor Muriel Bowser will announce a Chief Technology Officer for the District and launch a groundbreaking open government initiative. As part of the push, the Bowser Administration will release a draft Open Data Policy and kick-off a collaborative, innovative, and open online engagement strategy for receiving public feedback on the policy. The draft policy proposes strong measures to make the District a leader in open and collaborative government, by proactively making District data and code available to the public for review and analysis.

Mayor Bowser will also re-launch the DC Open Government Advisory Group which will be a forum for the District to receive direct feedback from stakeholders.

The Administration’s initiatives deliver on the Mayor’s commitment to increase transparency and accountability District-wide. Last week, Mayor Bowser announced the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development’s (DMPED) Economic  Intelligence Dashboard, an open-source economic data tool to drive positive change and build good government for DC residents particularly on DC’s economic development priorities.
