Mayor Bowser to Cut Ribbon at DCI and LAMB Schools on Walter Reed

1,000 DC Charter School Students From All Eight Wards are the First Occupants on the Former Army Site Now Owned By the District

(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, September 21, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will cut the ribbon at the District of Columbia International (DCI) and Latin American Montessori Bilingual (LAMB) Public Charter Schools at the historic Delano Hall of the Walter Reed campus in Ward 4. This special occasion marks the opening of the first public use building on the Parks at Walter Reed, formerly known as the Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus.

Earlier this year, Mayor Bowser broke ground on the Parks at Walter Reed which will generate 5,000 jobs, 2,100 units of housing (432 affordable units), and $1 billion in new tax revenue over the next 30 years. The 66-acre site will consist of residential, office, and retail neighborhood spaces, utilizing new construction and reuse of existing historic structures. Last year, Mayor Bowser signed the Walter Reed Development Omnibus Act of 2016, which authorized Washington, DC to acquire the land from the US Army.
