Mayor Bowser to Host Ceremonial Wreath Laying in Honor of the 50th Anniversary of the MLK Assassination

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, April 4, at 11 am, Mayor Bowser will host a ceremonial wreath laying at the site of the MLK memorial on the National Mall in honor of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,

In the spring of 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. traveled to Memphis to join the sanitation workers’ strike where he gave his prophetic “Mountaintop” speech on April 3. The following day, King was assassinated at the age of 39. In Washington, DC, six days of riots erupted following the assassination.
