Mayor Bowser Invites Residents to Join Her at Freedom Plaza on New Year’s Day for the FITDC Fresh Start 5K

Thursday, December 29, 2022

(Washington, DC) – With the New Year approaching, Mayor Muriel Bowser is inviting residents to register for the ninth annual FITDC Fresh Start 5K, which will take place at Freedom Plaza starting at 11 am on January 1, 2023.

This New Year’s Day tradition is free and open to people of all ages, whether you’re running, walking, or cheering on friends and family.

Register for the Fresh Start 5K here.

Residents who do not preregister online can register at Freedom Plaza on January 1 starting at 10 am. Warm up will begin at 10:40 am. The 5K will begin promptly at 11 am.

Freedom Plaza is just a two-block walk from the Metro Center metro stop (Red, Blue, Sliver, and Orange Lines) and a five-block walk from the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop (Red, Yellow and Green Lines).

The Fresh Start 5K is the flagship signature event of the FITDC campaign, Mayor Muriel Bowser’s health and wellness initiative designed to close the health gap among District residents and help communities live healthier and more active lifestyles. Each year, FITDC exposes 25,000 plus residents to free, high-quality fitness and wellness through 5Ks, bike rides, local fitness classes, nutrition services, and online mental health sessions.

Residents who register for the FITDC Fresh Start 5K will be encouraged to share themselves completing the 5K on social media using the hashtag #FreshStart5K.
