Mayor Bowser to Participate in Annual Point in Time Count and Raise Awareness about the District’s Homeless Services

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, January 22, at 9 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with volunteers, will engage residents experiencing homelessness to help connect them with available District resources and services, and will execute the annual census of persons and families experiencing homelessness as part of her administration’s annual Point in Time (PIT) count.

The annual PIT count provides key information on the size, scope and service needs of persons experiencing homelessness in the District. This information, in turn, helps the District Government to better target resources and work to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonreccuring in the District.

The 2019 PIT count indicated a 5.5% reduction in the overall number of persons experiencing homelessness in 2018, and a 45 percent decrease in family homelessness since Mayor Bowser began implementing her Homeward DC plan in 2016. Chronic homelessness in the District has declined by 13.5% and is at its lowest rate in 15 years.
