Mayor Bowser to Welcome Teachers Back to School

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, August 14, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will welcome back DC Public Schools (DCPS) teachers for School Year 2017-2018. Eleven extended-year schools will begin on Monday, August 14, and the remaining schools will start the school year on Monday, August 21. 

As part of the Bowser Administration’s work to accelerate education reform, Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget invested $1.74 billion in public education, an increase of $121 million over last year’s budget and the largest investment ever in Washington, DC. Last year, the Mayor also expanded extended-year to 10 additional schools for the 2016-2017 school year, primarily for schools in Wards 7 and 8.
