Statement from Mayor Bowser on Transgender Day of Remembrance

Monday, November 20, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, prior to attending the Transgender Day of Remembrance at the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, Mayor Bowser released the following statement:

“Today, we say the names of and honor the more than two dozen transgender people throughout the United States whom we have lost  to violence in 2017. We stand as ambassadors of healing, hope, and inclusiveness. In Washington, DC, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of every Washingtonian and ensuring that every person in our community feels safe being themselves. These are our DC values and, on this day of remembrance, we are reminded of how important it is to live by them – and promote them – each and every day.”
