(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, October 6, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will launch the Landlord Partnership Fund, a collaborative initiative to help more DC residents qualify for housing resources and protections to private sector landlords for easing their screening criteria for people experiencing barriers such as poor credit and past evictions. The protections will include a right to collect from the fund to cover unpaid rent, damages to the rental unit, and other lease charges. As part of Homeward DC, the District’s five-year strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness, the Landlord Partnership Fund was developed by DC Department Human Services (DHS), Downtown DC Business Improvement District (BID), the Coalition for Non-Profit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED), and will be operated by CNHED with financial support from Downtown DC BID.
The Mayor will also discuss the several changes at DHS such as improvements to the landlord payment structure; enhancements to case management services; a Landlord Resolution Portal that helps landlords connect directly to DHS to resolve payment or other program related issues; and a new Flexible Rent Subsidy Pilot Program that targets families at risk of homelessness.
Tomorrow’s announcement is part of Housing Week 2017, a combined effort to highlight the remarkable progress the Bowser Administration has made to produce and preserve affordable housing across all eight wards. Since 2015, the Administration has sparked the creation or preservation of more than 8,400 affordable units, with another 3,700 units in preconstruction. Earlier this week, Mayor Bowser highlighted more than $138 million in investments from the Housing Production Trust Fund (HPTF) in fiscal year 2017, which will support 23 projects that will produce or preserve more than 1,900 affordable housing units throughout the city. On Tuesday, the Mayor launched eight projects that will produce or preserve more than 500 affordable housing units.
