Mayor Bowser to Join Capital Pride Rally at Freedom Plaza

(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, June 12, at 2 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join the Capital Pride Alliance for their 2021 Capital Pride Rally at Freedom Plaza. This year’s Capital Pride Rally theme is ‘Still We Gather.’

Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2022 Fair Shot Budget proposal, which she submitted to the Council two weeks ago, includes significant investments in supporting and creating opportunity for LGBTQ+ residents, including:

  • $50,000 for a study on the health of LGBTQ+ residents within the District
  • $70,000 for community grants to be issued by the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs
  • $108,000 to create a new staff position in the Office of Human Rights in support of the implementation of the LGBTQ+ Seniors and Seniors with HIV Amendment Act of 2020
  • $350,000 for a contractor surge to reduce the Office of Human Rights’ current case backlog
  • $700,000 for grants to provide LGBTQ+ residents with targeted services and dedicated emergency shelter housing
  • $1,000,000 for workforce development programs to LGBTQ+ youth and residents older than 24
  • $1,000,000 for a Community Center to house advocacy and support organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community
  • $2,550,000 for low-barrier shelters for transgender residents
