Thursday, November 5, 2015
Event showcases new developments popping up across the District

On Friday, November 6th, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join District officials, business leaders and community members to host DC’s first-ever “Scissors & Shovels Day.”

The full day of events will showcase the District’s progress in expanding economic opportunity across the city – through the ribbon cuttings of new businesses and affordable housing units, and the groundbreakings of future developments.  The day’s festivities will be kicked off at Uber’s newly expanded District office, opening of the Turning Natural Juice Bar in Ward 8, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kenilworth Recreation Center in Ward 7, and more.

“The District is a city on the move.  Businesses are opening, jobs are being created and economic opportunity is coming to all corners of our city,” said Mayor Bowser. “Through ’Scissors & Shovels,’ we celebrate DC’s progress in putting more residents on their pathway to the middle class.”

On Saturday, Mayor Bowser will lead a delegation of District government officials, private sector and non-profit leaders for a trade mission to China. The purpose of the trip is to attract investment to the District, expand trade with China, and create more economic opportunities for District residents and businesses.
